No. This is not the kernel. It's the package. I am confused. But a
new kernel will be good anyway...

Ok, I think I know what's going wrong in your case and that is then
utterly my fault as I hadn't even thought so far back anymore.
The change which was needed was Feb 29 2024 but did not bump
__FreeBSD_version so I picked the next one in the port which was from
Mar 13 2024.
Is your "current" <= 1500014?  sysctl kern.osreldate

In that case the port still builds kernel modules as plain firmware
files were not supported yet. That's basically unsupported now given
14.1 is out of support but the removal hasn't happened yet and no
current packages are built on such old versions anymore.

Yes, do the kernel. Keep whatever firmware you have currently if it got
loaded. It'll still work on the newer kernel.

Then you'd have to rebuild the port again on the new kernel/world which
should then give you the files mentioned above and after another reboot
you'll be the 2nd AX201 user to test that I know off :)

Sorry for being a bit strict. Things outside the scope just make it
harder and I am trying to sort a lot of details out for the upcoming
14.3-R.

All the best with the update; don't forget drm-kmod along with the
kernel build and then let us know how the AX201 is...

Lots of health,
Bjoern
