Yup, some on-device features require also up to date tools. nc@ is the
port maintainer so probably that will be best person possible to ask
about the update :-)
To solve usb permissions use these and add users that are supposed to
have access to the operator group:
***/etc/devfs.rules:
[localrules=10]
add path 'ugen*' mode 0660 group operator
add path 'usb/*' mode 0660 group operator
add path 'usb' mode 0770 group operator
***/etc/rc.conf:
devfs_system_ruleset="localrules"
