This worked:

usbconfig -d ugenX.Y add_quirk UQ_MSC_NO_GETMAXLUN
usbconfig -d ugenX.Y add_quirk UQ_MSC_NO_SYNC_CACHE

I then had to install sysutils/fusefs-exfat to mount it.

Additinoal notes:

There's not much of a manual but it does state MAC OS 10.0 and above along with
Android 4.0 and above are supported.  It also gives a way to set the time
without using the included Windows software.
