Help getting FreeBSD to mount a Garmin Edge GPS as a file system?

[Reply-To set, as I am away from home -- with limited connectivity, about to start a series of bike rides. -- dhw] Apparently when one connects a Garmin Edge 1030 (cycling GS) to a computer running "certain" OSen via a USB cable, the computer "sees" the other end of the USB connection as some type of recognizable file system, and allows one to copy files between the Edge 1030 and the computer. I have my "non-work" laptop* with me, so it runs any of: FreeBSD 12.3-STABLE #1255 stable/12-n235377-7a18eb78b28: Fri Jul 22 13:31:45 EEST 2022 root@g1-48.catwhisker.org:/common/S1/obj/usr/src/amd64.amd64/sys/CANARY amd64 1203507 1203507 FreeBSD 13.1-STABLE #520 stable/13-n251871-f947192f689f: Fri Jul 22 15:37:28 EEST 2022 root@g1-48.catwhisker.org:/common/S3/obj/usr/src/amd64.amd64/sys/CANARY amd64 1301506 1301506 or FreeBSD 14.0-CURRENT #218 main-n256882-8f733dabcc35: Fri Jul 22 15:10:54 EEST 2022 root@g1-48.catwhisker.org:/common/S4/obj/usr/src/amd64.amd64/sys/CANARY amd64 1400064 1400064 (but X11 is only usable under stable/13). Previous trip, we were unable to get the "base maps" loaded to the GPS, so the routes showed up with no context -- just a (pink) line on a featureless blue background. As Spouse is navigator (Navigatrix?) on our tandem bike, and I value Domestic Tranquility very highly, I would like to do what I can to make things easier for her. :-) When I connect the GPS to the computer while it runs stable/13, I see (e.g.): <2>1 2022-07-24T17:37:25.461539+00:00 localhost kernel - - - usb_alloc_device: set address 3 failed (USB_ERR_IOERROR, ignored) <2>1 2022-07-24T17:37:27.270548+00:00 localhost kernel - - - usbd_setup_device_desc: getting device descriptor at addr 3 failed, USB_ERR_IOERROR <2>1 2022-07-24T17:37:27.471548+00:00 localhost kernel - - - usbd_req_re_enumerate: addr=3, set address failed! (USB_ERR_IOERROR, ignored) <2>1 2022-07-24T17:37:29.280547+00:00 localhost kernel - - - usbd_setup_device_desc: getting device descriptor at addr 3 failed, USB_ERR_IOERROR <2>1 2022-07-24T17:37:29.883549+00:00 localhost kernel - - - usbd_req_re_enumerate: addr=3, set address failed! (USB_ERR_IOERROR, ignored) <2>1 2022-07-24T17:37:31.692546+00:00 localhost kernel - - - usbd_setup_device_desc: getting device descriptor at addr 3 failed, USB_ERR_IOERROR I am hoping that the above actually means something (useful) to someone (who might be willing to lend a hint). Please? Thanks in advance! ----- * "non-work laptop" doesn't have the (GELI-encrypted) file system I use for work-related stuff on it at all, so it's the one I use when I'm traveling on vacation. It also uses graphics/drm-kmod, FWIW. Peace, david -- David H. Wolfskill david@catwhisker.org Denying a woman the choice of how her pregancy ends is involuntary servitude.
