Also unclear, why:

-USE_GCC=       yes:build
+USE_GCC=       yes

causing a runtime dependency when what is built (EDK2) runs
as firmware (even for the bhyve EDK2) instead of as a FreeBSD
program/library.

USE_GCC=        yes:build

looks right to me.
