While u-boot-rpi2 from the present ports directory does not saveenv to FAT,
I stumbled upon a version from an old image that does. The contents have
been placed at:

http://www.zefox.net/~fbsd/rpi2/dosfiles_that_saveenv_to_fat/

in case that provides a helpful example.
