Updating GCC_DEFAULT from GCC 11 to GCC 12 is blocked by the fact that building
this port with GCC 12 on amd64 fails. Please see the logs at the following

I see there is already an approved patch, probably tested with GCC 12.1. Please
note that we have now GCC 12.2. Could someone please check that the patch still
compiles and that it still solves the issue? Thanks.
