I added USES=llvm, implying llvm 19 with my default versions file, and the
build completed without error.

The NULL dereference is introduced in the x86 backend.  Run llc on the new
attachment, "optimized llvm IR".  There is no NULL access in the IR.  llc
introduces the bad memory access at -O1 but not at -O0.
