I'll note that without doing something explicit,
the --trace does not ever report a: /usr/lib/libsys.so*

So, apparently the linker is not even looking at
libsys.so in normal operation on main. Somehow
that (possibly deliberate) incompleteness prevents
the error report and so silently produces invalid
results?
