I'm inclined to say that if bsdinstall permits you to select a boot mode that
leads to the installation failing, then that is a bug.  We can make this bug
report about that if you like.

I'm also wondering why /boot/pmbr is not shipped.  It's just a 512 byte file,
but very useful for preparing disks for x86 systems.
