Both the issues were still present in 14-CURRENT snapshot of 20220303.

After the error messages, deleting & recreating the partition; specifying the
mountpoint of "/" made the installer continue with installation (installed the
base system directly on the root pool and not under different datasets as
happens with "Auto" mode, but that is different PR).
