Yes - the [LEFT] and [RIGHT] arrows work properly - they just work and do not print escape codes instead.
I have also find some workaround:
# env TERM=xterm bsdinstall
That way - when booted in 'xterm' mode you can still start bsdinstall(8) in 'xterm' mode from Live System option and not in 'vt100' mode.
