i get why reproducible builds are a good thing and maybe only way forward but that makes system debugging much harder. once we get rid of n and hash in kernel too, that leaves only, what, fbsd version and release name? eg, which 16-current it is, where was it built and when. or maybe we should get rid or in-kernel version as well, as patchlevel interferes with pkgbase, i mean it already does now. in many cases kernel doesn't get patched at all. i mean holy hell. that would mean pkg would be the only thing to query versions from? that would create whole new world to figure out is the system patched or not...
