  I took a quick look at it, I don't think it's related to the patch,
thank you for the log.

  I could reproduce the build error with MySQL 8, in make.conf:

    DEFAULT_VERSIONS= mysql=8.0

  With default MySQL (5.7) there are no issue. It seems that the gem
itself is not compatible with MySQL 8:

  So in my opinion, we can ignore that build error in the context of
this PR.
