After upgrade to 14.2, I cannot go from X to a virtual console

Dear Sirs and Madams!

I just upgraded from 14.0 to 14.2 my Asus E35M1-I:

https://www.asus.com/supportonly/e35m1i/helpdesk_manual/

As always, it took many hours, perhaps 4 or 5 with freebsd-update,
and as very frequently, I ended with a broken system.

This time not so broken that I cannot use firefox or write Email for
asking for help.

I normally boot in a virtual console and start X after login as normal user
(Xorg with +s permission). And this was successful.

The problem is that I cannot get back to the console, neither with
Control-Alt-F1
nor with terminating X. When I do it, I end with a black screen.

This means, I cannot see console messages, including those in the
shutdown process.
For my feeling a very ugly issue, enough to think about leaving FreeBSD.

/var/log/Xorg.0.log indicates that X ends without problem. And typing
"shutdown -h now"
on the black screen does shutdown the system.

Any hint how I can solve the problem?

Thanks in advance
Rod.
