Ignore that, I had forgotten to start the service.

root@mowa219-gjp4-8570p-freebsd:~ # service dsbmd onestart
Starting dsbmd.
root@mowa219-gjp4-8570p-freebsd:~ # service dsbmd onestop
Stopping dsbmd.
root@mowa219-gjp4-8570p-freebsd:~ #
