Yes, HA Bluetooth staff can work entirely through ESPHome API (using a device
as a proxy).
But I think that there was some error in bleak initialization when BlueZ or
something could not be found locally.  Someone reported that to HA or bleak
devs (I don't recall), but they brushed off the report as being for a
non-supported configuration.
