This is most likely not the finished product, but I have started a review for
the updated port.

I only have Python 3.7 on my system, and it's too late for me to go through the
whole process of building 3.8 which would require rebuilding a ton of packages
on my build server which is an 8th Gen I7 Intel NUC.

I will attach the diff as well.  If you wish to confirm the issue you guys
mentioned still exists, let me know.  If not I'll try and test more tomorrow
(Sunday evening).
