I'm not quite sure what you're asking.  I have an X5000 with a UFS
root, it's partitioned MBR with 2 partitions: msdosfs for ubldr, and
the rest is dedicated to a disklabel with a few partitions.  You want
in U-Boot the following variables at least:

loaderdev disk1s2a is mine (first disk, second slice, first partition
in that slice)

bootcmd: sata init; fatload sata 0:1 $loadaddr ubldr; fatload sata 0:1
$fdtaddr $fdtfile; fdt addr $fdtaddr; fdt boardsetup; bootelf $loadaddr
bootargs: vfs.root.mountfrom=ufs:/dev/ada0s2a (same as loaderdev)

The vfs.root.mountfrom may not be necessary, if ubldr provides it to
the kernel, but I keep it just to be safe.
