I'm closing this as maintainer nk identified the issue (wrong default user in
netdata.conf) and the reporter confirmed the fix works. The maintainer planned
to fix the default in v1.42.3, and the port has been updated many times since
(now at 2.8.5). The permission issues are long resolved.
