Bug ID: 296231
Summary: databases/mariadb114-server-11.4.12 sets
innodb_buffer_pool_size_max to 8 TB by default
Product: Ports & Packages
Version: Latest
Hardware: Any
OS: Any
Status: New
Severity: Affects Some People
Priority: ---
Component: Individual Port(s)
Assignee: ports-bugs@FreeBSD.org
Reporter: wolfgang@lyxys.ka.sub.org
If you use the InnoDB Storage Engine on MariaDB, it tries to reserve
innodb_buffer_pool_size_max amount of virtual memory on startup. According to
MariaDB decumentation, if no value for innodb_buffer_pool_size_max is defined
in the configuration, it defaults to the same value as innodb_buffer_pool_size
or to 0 if no innodb_buffer_pool_size is configured either. I can confirm this
behaviour with mariadb114-server-11.4.10. However on mariadb114-server-11.4.12
innodb_buffer_pool_size_max defaults to 8 TB if not explicitely set. In
resource-limited environments this leads to all sorts of interesting
consequences, rendering the system completely unusable in at least one case.
