--- Comment #13 from Nikolaj Thygesen <mailinglist@diamondbox.dk> ---
(In reply to Robert Clausecker from comment #10)
The situation is, that misc/ossp-uuid is a "3rd party" library unrelated to
swipl except swipl is using it from inside a plugin - as such I have nothing to
do with misc/ossp-uuid. It is used in a handful of other ports to generate
uuid's.
Swipl wants to also use that same library port but is unable on freebsd,
because libc (sorry for using wrong name - it is referenced as clib in the
swipl tree) shadows at least one function - uuid_create(). No amount of me
renaming functions in swipl can un-hide misc/ossp-uuid's function uuid_create()
from behind the wall of libc's own and incompatible implementation of
uuid_create() which even takes a different number of arguments.
Like I stated in a former post, the only way to get around it as far as I can
find, is using the:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/local/lib/libossp-uuid.so
... magic to get the port names loaded before libc names, but having to do this
with every invocation of swipl doesn't seem desirable.
I'm not saying the weak symbols are the sexiest solution alive, but they do
maintain backwards compatibility, and neither I nor the freebsd mailing lists
have come up with better alternatives.
