Agreed — I’d prefer to avoid USES=autoreconf where possible.

My plan is to upstream these autotools/build fixes first, so that the
regenerated files land in an upstream release tarball. As soon as we can drop
the ports-side patches to configure.ac/Makefile.am, I’ll remove USES=autoreconf
immediately to avoid the extra deps/overhead.
