So despite what the early posts say, this is not a problem with synth.
The issue is that a maintainer of the port made a change that is against the
porter's handbook (for good reason).

The change needs to be reverted.

What the apache maintainers need to discuss is what is the correct way to
handle the QA check fail.  I've provided my opinion on that on previous posts.
