Thanks for reporting the error.

Sounds like you hit the kernel command line length/size limit. Unfortunately,
unless bsddialog learns to read the dialog specification from a file, the only
option is splitting the dialog into several shorter lists.

I've submitted an update that hopefully does just that in Bug 294435. Hopefully
the limit of 250 packages per dialog is low enough not to trigger the issue.
