And for comparison with other Wayland environments: 

- sway refuses to run with proprietary drivers except with a special
command-line flag. With the flag, it at least resets to graphics mode and draws
a mouse cursor, but I don't know how to deal with this kind of minimalistic
environment.
- river resets to graphics mode and draws a mouse cursor, but the same thing
applies: I don't know how to deal with this kind of environment.

Neither of them panics the system, and both can be gotten-out-of by switching
to a different vt and then using kill(1).
