https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=285604 --- Comment #7 from Terry Kennedy <terry-freebsd@glaver.org> --- (In reply to Koichiro Iwao from comment #4) ICANN is just doing something for the sake of appearing to be doing something, and providing less functionality. This certainly isn't unique to them - I could say the same thing about ISC BIND, for example. Anyway, compare the output of "jwhois 204.141.35.0" with that same netblock in RDAP: https://lookup.icann.org/en/lookup WHOIS is a tangled mess of "you need to know who to ask", while RDAP seems to handle that for many cases. However, I've managed to get it to respond with "No registry RDAP server was identified for this domain. Attempting lookup using WHOIS service." So (to quote Monty Python) "But I'm not dead yet!" The WHOIS/RDAP data for domain registrations has become far less useful as time has passed, since many domains are now registered behind WHOIS privacy proxies. However, AS assignments and netblock data is still useful. I think we (I) should continue to maintain jwhois until it doesn't have any usable servers to contact. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
