Hmm, jextract (the version being installed) depends on java 23. Using
system installed version, if I understand it right, java 8,
doesn't have Foreign Function & Memory (FFM) API at all.

jextract is tightened to a specific java version, and there are distinct
versions for java 18 and up (https://github.com/openjdk/jextract).

"Pre-built binaries for jextract are periodically released here. These binaries
are built from the master branch of this repo, and target the foreign memory
access and function API in the latest mainline JDK (for which binaries can be
found here)."

Probably, jextract needs to be installed into $PREFIX/jextract23?
