hey thank *you* for the quick action and for carrying this upstream. by the
sounds of it, they're on the right track

PYDISTUTILS_INSTALLARGS by the looks of it is only applicable to the distutils
way of doing things and i guess the writing on the wall is it's not long for
this world anymore (despite pep517 still not yet being mentioned once in the
Porter's Handbook)

Mk/Uses/python.mk is the most gnarly and frightening file in the entire FreeBSD
project, as far as i'm concerned. just know: any of y'all who work on holding
the Python+FreeBSD ecosystems together *never* will pay for your drinks in *my*
presence
