P.S.: Completely removed everything related to owncast on the system, freshly
installed it, rebooted, "service owncast start" does not really start the
service.
"service owncast status" reports owncast not working.

After issuing chown -R owncast:owncast /usr/local/www/owncast/ it seems the
owncast service now starts, but the owncast administration panel is corrupted;
none of the links works there.
