Well rumours were flying in all directions and I think the problem was
due to some obscure update on the build servers which wrecked havok. The
problem of the quarterly packages seems to have been fixed about six
hours ago and I already tested a clean install of kde with kde-gear and
sddm.

 It works near as I can tell.
