I understand and can fix most of your comments.  However, I'm not the creator
of the lower=level "makefile" and was attempting to make it work as a FreeBSD
port.

I'll see what I can do about some of the more exotic, non Porter's Handbook
compliant, coding in it.

BTW, In regards to the arm issue, does the port build?
