            Bug ID: 271984
           Summary: lang/perl5.32 / lang/perl5.34: Switch default version
                    - 5.32 End of Support
           Product: Ports & Packages
           Version: Latest
          Hardware: Any
                OS: Any
            Status: New
          Severity: Affects Many People
          Priority: ---
         Component: Individual Port(s)
          Assignee: mat@FreeBSD.org
          Reporter: i.dani@outlook.com
          Assignee: mat@FreeBSD.org
             Flags: maintainer-feedback?(mat@FreeBSD.org)

Perl 5.32 currently still is the default for the portstree:
https://cgit.freebsd.org/ports/tree/Mk/bsd.default-versions.mk#n107

Perl 5.36 has been released, which means, Perl 5.32 is end of support and only
gets updates best effort. See:
https://perldoc.perl.org/perlpolicy#MAINTENANCE-AND-SUPPORT

Quote:
"We "officially" support the two most recent stable release series. 5.30.x and
earlier are now out of support. As of the release of 5.36.0, we will
"officially" end support for Perl 5.32.x, other than providing security updates
as described below.

To the best of our ability, we will attempt to fix critical issues in the two
most recent stable 5.x release series. Fixes for the current release series
take precedence over fixes for the previous release series.

To the best of our ability, we will provide "critical" security patches /
releases for any major version of Perl whose 5.x.0 release was within the past
three years. We can only commit to providing these for the most recent .y
release in any 5.x.y series."

IMHO Perl 5.34 should be the new default and there should be an exp-run asap.
Thanks for taking a look at it!
