I improperly fixed gdm restarting:

Changed the patch-data_init.in to chown gdm instead of _gdm

then I changed PostSession to include /usr/local/etc/rc.d/gdm onerestart
Obviously that's just a dumb hack...

Not really quite sure what's going on. Upon failing to restart it mentions a
greeter.
