After some quick thinking, I think I wanted it to fetch its requisites and it
should go without building, but apparently there is some cargo cult (pun
intended) there that crams hundreds of source files into the distdir. 

I think the go world is the offender here and should provide a way to fetch
inputs with building go first. It's not as expensive as rust, but still
surprising.
