Gtk/pango already convert unrecognized sequences to UTF-8 Replacement Characters. 802.11 does not define ssid contents or character set and ssids can contain= any arbitrary octet sequence. One could say that wifimgr should examine the ss= id octets and do something with sequences that gtk/pango will not be able to display, but the problem is knowing what sequences are not valid when there= is no way of knowing what character set (if any) the data is in. Each received ssid could be in different character set or be just arbitrary octets.
