            Bug ID: 258579
           Summary: audio/kmix consider making multimedia/kdemultimedia
                    not dependent upon KMix
           Product: Ports & Packages
           Version: Latest
          Hardware: Any
                OS: Any
            Status: New
          Severity: Affects Some People
          Priority: ---
         Component: Individual Port(s)
          Assignee: kde@FreeBSD.org
          Reporter: grahamperrin@gmail.com
             Flags: maintainer-feedback?(kde@FreeBSD.org)
          Assignee: kde@FreeBSD.org

KMix seems to be indirectly problematic in cases such as these:

<https://forums.FreeBSD.org/threads/80412/post-524012> where I chose to force
deletion of KMix, then create and register a fake manifest to prevent
reinstallation;

<https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/75044/> involving a headset and a USB
switch.

Thoughts
========

On one hand: a logical response to this bug report might be, refrain from
installing multimedia/kdemultimedia (instead: perform installation of discrete
packages).

On the other hand: logically, a person should not encounter such difficulties
with audio – with or without USB.

Given real-world difficulties with audio/USB, can multimedia/kdemultimedia be
changed to _not_ depend upon KMix?

At least, until difficulties can be more easily worked around or resolved.

TIA
