Seems there are more issues around this nowadays as pkgbase becomes the thing.
I was just 7 years too early reporting the problem ;-)

I have a feeling this will be tracked elsewhere.  I still feel renaming the
variable rather not allowing it to be picked up from the environment will help
us lots long-term.
