https://pkg.freebsd.org/FreeBSD:15:amd64/latest/files.pkg

no longer exists, at least as of when I looked.

In a base_latest pkgbase (stable/15) context:

# pkg-static update -rFreeBSD-ports -f
Updating FreeBSD-ports repository catalogue...
Fetching meta.conf: 100% 168 B 0.2 kB/s 00:01
Fetching data: 100% 12 MiB 6.4 MB/s 00:02
Processing entries: 100%
FreeBSD-ports repository update completed. 38014 packages processed.
FreeBSD-ports is up to date.

So it no longer reports reading the 40 GiByte or so byte file. Also,
after I used my upgrade script I looked and found:

# ls -lodT /var/db/pkg/repos/FreeBSD-ports/db
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel - 77889536 Jul 31 20:13:16 2026
/var/db/pkg/repos/FreeBSD-ports/db

So, no longer huge. (I did not look just after the "pkg-static
update -rFreeBSD-ports -f", unfortunately.)

Note:
https://pkg.freebsd.org/FreeBSD:16:amd64/latest/files.pkg

still exists, but main (CURRENT) being a testing ground before
stable/* or releng/*.* is normal.
