Thank you for clarifying; then we're thinking along the same lines.

If I had seen this say, some weeks later, I think I'd have leaned towards 
openening a new PR instead of a follow up.

About six days after comment #4 I wrote my response & linking to bug #288366, 
in the expectation that that would be sufficient and easy enough for Graham, 
and others, to find the relevant pull request/commit.

If had followed things more closely, I might have closed this PR myself, 
labelled as obe, with a reference. 

In general however, I'm somewhat hesitant as to what I, as the PR issuer is 
supposed to do / expected to do wrt to closing *one's own* PR. What comes 
to mind is making a request / posing the question if the PR can be closed? 
Also because, again in general, other things and users might be affected 
and the PR issue itself might be more extensive then the PR initiator might 
realise.
