Hi Nick,

I redid the test with the 15.1-STABLE memstick, but this time I correctly
injected the 4-queue limit at the loader prompt *before* the kernel booted:

OK set hw.aq.num_queues="4"
OK set dev.aq.0.iflib.override_nrxqs="4"
OK set dev.aq.0.iflib.override_ntxqs="4"
OK boot

The result? Absolute perfection. The PHY linked up instantly. The FreeBSD
installer downloaded the base.txz and other files at full speed, identically to
a rock-solid Intel or Realtek card. No timeouts, no packet drops.

Conclusion: The in-tree driver's PHY and DMA code works flawlessly for the
Lenovo 0x07B1! The ONLY bug is the default queue allocation. When it sees the
32-thread Threadripper, it tries to allocate 12 queues, which completely
crashes this specific OEM firmware. 

If you can patch the driver to automatically clamp the queues (perhaps max 4 or
8) specifically for this Lenovo PCI ID, the driver will be 100%
production-ready out of the box!
