Agreed, the automatic variant is basically porting the Linux rational.  We
could trivially combine approaches, where it is default limited to 32b DMA, and
a TUNABLE allows one to override and enable larger DMA on intel or 64-bit RISC
chipsets (which basically just means PowerPC now).  Or take just my approach or
your approach and document the limitation.

Given that people still using these PCI cards (not PCI-X) are probably few, and
further need whatever the impacting system chipset is, I don't suspect there
will be much feedback in any direction.
