I also do not experience this with 15.1-RELEASE on neither USB or HDA audio
cards. As Thibault above said, please give us more information. What sound card
is it? Which driver does it run?

Also, some debugging info (when audio is running). As a start, these would be
useful:

1. "sndctl -v"
2. mixer(8)'s output
3. dmesg, after you've set hw.snd.verbose=4
