Could you please try:
sysctl machdep.idle_mwait=0
and see if that makes a difference.
Similarly and separately, please try different values for the sysctl knob
'machdep.idle' (see 'machdep.idle_available' for the possible values). What is
the default value you see for 'machdep.idle'?
