Which Chromebook are you using? Is it one of the devices in the links 
you've provided? If not, could you please provide the outputs of running:

- `cat /dev/sndstat`

- The relevant audio codecs from dmesg.boot (involving snd_hda)

- The output of `sysctl dev.hdaa.0`
