Re: "Why I am retiring from contributing to FreeBSD"

In an earlier email, I chose to intentionally lie about something. Some readers will be familiar with this phrase: "The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.". We have, now: a non-consensual desire for truth and transparency, plus a statement that is demonstrably false ― and the truth, a single click away, should have been obvious to at least one person who has actively contributed to the discussion. Yet, no-one offered a correction that is now relevant. Was the silence: opaqueness (less than the whole truth), ignorance (possibly wilful), ennui, or some combination of those three things? Is my lie white, or not? How many people even know the meaning of the word consensus? Ladies and gentlemen of the jury: please be seated. Be careful what you wish for. ---- On 02/01/2026 01:24, vermaden wrote: > … If current 'Core Team' is not up to the task - and I do not know all the details and did not tracked that case in any way - lets elect better 'Core Team' next time. … We cannot. Neither you nor I can vote, and that is exactly how it should be. For the benefit of outsiders who may read this: the reason should be clear from an earlier email. To everyone: the ease with which a person, group, or vehicle can be intentionally or unintentionally manipulated is simultaneously (a) deliciously amusing, which is inappropriate for a discussion that is so serious; and (b) SERIOUSLY alarming. Trials aside: on this occasion I was the manipulator, I was the liar. Judge me, if you like, but please do so elsewhere. It is not a freebsd-hackers@ issue. Aisle 6 is already a mess, I am guilty of (at least) lengthening the aisle, and someone must clean up the mess after us, so do not use this list to ask where else. I cannot emphasise enough the value of what Warner wrote on 1st January.
