I'd rather we prevent others from breaking their ecosystem than sidestep 
it and diverge, which is usually more maintenance effort.

NONE of the whateverUP things in the base system have survived. Unlike 
"C/C++ compiler".  Some were written in niche languages, f.i. cvsup in 
some Modula if I remember correctly.
