the diff procedures described here are totally insane

i don't commit local or stash at all. i just modify local wd and keep diffs elsewhere

recently i ran, eg

git diff -U1000000 rc.conf | arc diff --raw

in src tree

unfortunately there is no file adder function?!

having to do

diff -rNu /var/empty/ sysutils/u-boot-orangepi-zero-2w/

in /usr/ports is absolute bollocks. it's even wrong!

what would be sane way for both?

if i don't have commit access and i don't want to touch "foreign" gits locally

right now i like only do

git status --ignored

git diff

git log --name-status

git clean -fdx

note that other vcs'es have even worse ui

i wish there's sane way to just get diff of untracked files so one can either save them in nice format or submit patches that way

like, git diff --include-untracked

that would be it. just one command. make your local changes, save them and send patch in

instead you have to battle with local changes in remote repo. and now repo is all messed up and you have to restore a state. i don't know how others work. what if i don't commit directly from repo? then it all falls apart

i also see others battling and battling and battling with git. and again, git has best ui of all vcs. others are much worse. i don't know which brain shape one needs to have to like any of this

but in case of me, it just pisses me off

git pisses me off in my local repos too. like, if i add file, i no longer can diff it before i commit. i could git commit -v to see it tho

i have absolutely no idea why any of this is good. someone designed it. someone uses it. WHO likes it?

the amount of time needed to battle with dev tools should be instead used just to dev stuff. since i dev so little, i feel like i spend most of my time fucking with git
