Building the "lite" FLAVOR succeeds, but the full-blown version seems to
require gnome-desktop.

I suspect, it is the "thumbnail" functionality, that triggers the need for
gnome-desktop. The thumbnailing is disabled in "lite" flavor.

Looks like you forgot to update the pkg-plist-lite -- seems like the same
changes, that were made to the regular pkg-plist, need to be applied to the
-lite variant as well...
