Unfortunately, I could not complete the upgrade. mate-applets requires
libmatepanelapplet-4.0 >= 1.25.2. This is a file installed by mate-panel. So I
can't build mate-applets. Looks like I will be rolling back to 1.24 again,
though it will be faster this time.
